Join the Mid Rio Grande Stormwater Quality Team and our Partners Throughout the Community to Do the Right Thing and Keep the River Clean!
Disposing of your dog’s waste responsibly protects property, our river and our health!
Did you know that licensed dogs in the Albuquerque Metropolitan area create more than 20 tons of pet waste a day? If not disposed of properly, this waste can make the water in the Rio Grande unsafe, infect children and adults with disease-causing bacteria and parasites, and spread diseases between pets!
You can help!
- When walking with your pet, take a plastic bag or paper bag along and pick up its waste.
- Regularly pick up waste left in your yard, especially if your children play there or you spend time there, and put it in a bag for disposal.
- Secure the bag and put it in your household trash or outside trash receptacle for pickup (don’t use a yard waste container).
More information is available!
You can pick up a rack card or a bumper sticker at any of our partner locations while supplies last. These organizations and businesses share our commitment to responsible pet ownership that is good for pets, good for people and good for the environment!
